Botox vs Dermal Fillers: which is best for you?

If you have heard the term Botox vs dermal fillers, you will know that both treatments reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. But what is the difference between the two? Read on the discover how these treatments vary and which is best for you.

Botox vs Dermal fillers – what’s the difference?

Botox is the brand name for a specific type of wrinkle treatment using an intensely purified protein. This protein is injected into the muscle to relax the area and diminish the surrounding muscle activity. Botox is a great tool for targeting specific lines, such as frown lines or crows feet.

Dermal fillers work by replenishing the natural level of hyaluronic acid in the face, which decreases as we get older. Hyaluronic acid supports the skin and can be injected into the face to ‘plump’ out lines and wrinkles. This is a great method to add volume to certain parts of the face, which may have sunk due to natural aging or a high impact lifestyle. Hyaluronic acid is also the key ingredient in lip fillers in Bournemouth.

What does each treatment involve?

Both treatments are injected into the target areas with a small needle. This may result in minimal swelling or bruising (but can easily be covered with make-up, if you wish). The side effects for both treatments will soon go, usually within 24 hours. Although you may feel a little discomfort, neither Botox or dermal fillers are painful procedures.

How long do they last?

The results from Botox treatment usually lasts up to three months, but this may vary from patient to patient. The effects of dermal fillers can last up to 18 months, depending on the volume of the dermal fillers used.

Your top questions about chemical peels answered

A chemical peel can do wonders to improve and brighten your complexion. Here your top questions about chemical peels answered .  Learn about face peels and what results you can expect.

How do chemical peels work?

A chemical solution is applied to the face, exfoliating the skin, causing it to peel off. The exfoliated surface cells improve the skin’s pigmentation and smooths the surface texture of the face.
Chemical peels also increase the production of collagen, which reduces the appearance of wrinkles, leaving your complexion looking younger and glowing!

If you are prone to acne, skin peels can help reduce your breakouts and signs of scarring, giving you a beautifully even skin tone. If you are interested in other effective remedies for acne scarring, read more about dermaroller skin needling treatments in Bournemouth.

Do chemical peels hurt?

The idea that chemical peels are painful is a common misconception. Although your skin may feel warm and tingly, you should not experience any pain or discomfort. However, a chemical peel may make your skin temporarily more sensitive to the sun. Be sure to protect your skin from UV rays for the first few days after treatment.

How long do the effects of a face peel last?

The results of a face peel may vary depending on your personalised treatment. For the best results, we recommend between 4 and 6 sessions, with a 2 week break in between. You can repeat the treatment twice a year for ongoing, glowing skin.

How much do chemical peels cost?

Medical grade skin peels with Austin Brewer start from £85 per treatment.

Where can I get a chemical peel?

You don’t have to travel far to find an experienced and professional skin clinic. Austin Brewer is a facial aesthetic practitioner who specialises in chemical peels in Bournemouth.

Austin Brewer on UK Talk Radio: The Ageing Process

Austin Brewer, facial aesthetic practitioner in Bournemouth.  Appearing on UK Talk Radio to discuss the impact of the ageing process and the various cosmetic treatments available.

With increasing pressure from magazines and tabloids to look younger.  More men and women are seeking cosmetic treatments to reduce the signs of ageing. Whether it’s to feel more confident in a job or to have a fresh-faced look, we feel that a youthful appearance is a sign of beauty.

What happens to the face as we grow older?

As we grow older our bodies stop producing collagen and elastin, making our face less voluminous.  Gravity takes its toll and ultimately our skin sags, which can become quite noticeable.  Up to 10 years ago, people chose facelifts as the ideal treatment.  Yet the recovery time for this surgical procedure has led to a search for less invasive cosmetic treatments, such as facial fillers.  Austin Brewer says, “‘Facelifts have had their time now.  What we’re looking at now is putting that volume back in to somebody’s face.  Giving them that youthful appearance to make them look like they did without having to use a facelift.  It’s not about pulling it up its about putting the volume back in’.

Facelifts can result in quite drastic changes to the face shape.  Whereas less invasive cosmetic treatments such as facial fillers can provide a much more natural look.

What are the psychological effects of looking younger?

Psychologically, no one wants to look older, and your appearance impacts your self-esteem. By using facial fillers to look younger in your face, this will mirror your confidence and ultimately makes you feel happier!

What are some ways to achieve a more youthful complexion?

Volumisation of the face can be executed with facial fillers.  Older facial fillers only penetrate the layer beneath the skin.  Whereas Juvéderm infiltrates deep under the fatty layer and are different to other hyaluronic based fillers, as they emulate and grow the existing collagen at the same time.

Which areas of the face would you use dermal fillers?

Dermal fillers can be used to rewind the ageing process in many areas of the face but are most commonly applied to the cheeks, jawlines and the corners of your mouth.  It is also used in noses, foreheads for an overall effect of plumper skin. Dermal fillers produce immediate results and are clinically the longest lasting filler available today.

How often would need to top up dermal fillers?

Regular facial filler top ups are needed every 4-6 months, whereas Juvéderm fillers can last up to 18 months, depending a few factors, including the area treated.

UK talk radio is a described as ‘The UK’s most exciting new speech radio station.  Personality driven radio at its best available to listen on digital radios, phones and tablets.  Austin Brewer, a facial aesthetic practitioner in Bournemouth, was asked to join UK talk radio.  To discuss dermal fillers and hyperhidrosis treatments; aesthetic treatments.  Which many start to consider due to the result of ageing creating unwanted wrinkles or the problem of excessive sweating.

Wrinkle treatments and dermal fillers, the benefits of facial aesthetics austin-brewer

Many feel the pressure of a youthful appearance especially over Christmas and New Year.  With so many family gatherings and nights out, people want to look their best.  Frown lines and crow’s feet are the most prominent facial insecurities.  Which also affects confidence in the job market. ‘In all areas of life people tend to do business a lot better because they’re not giving away the facial clues of where they are in a business deal,’ said Austin.  Feeling confident in your appearance is bound to improve your confidence in the workplace, thus benefitting your performance.

The wrinkle treatments process

Once an initial consultation has taken place, during which Austin will discuss all the benefits of facial aesthetics.  Ensuring the client is happy with their wrinkle treatment options.  Austin will administer the muscle relaxants.  A series of injections will be administered into the muscles of the face that create the wrinkles, causing the muscles to relax and no longer contract.   The skin will smooth and therefore eliminate the wrinkles.

It reverses the ageing process, and with regular anti wrinkle treatments, the youthful look will be maintained.  As the muscles relax, a fresher and more rejuvenated look will be something to look forward to.

The dermal fillers process

Dermal fillers are an alternative wrinkle smoothing treatment, and another benefit of facial aesthetics.  These type of fillers are hyaluronic acid based, cross linked, double binded and made into a gel.  Hyaluronic acid is a natural component of the skin.  So the dermal fillers are a natural product which can therefore be used to fill wrinkles and smooth the skin.

With such an emphasis on youth in the job market and a relationship, dermal fillers can benefit all areas of your life by making you look younger. Learn more about dermal fillers in Bournemouth.

Hyperhidrosis treatments

Excessive sweating makes life difficult, especially at work and developing relationships. Austin Brewer provides an effective hyperhidrosis treatment that involves injections used to fill the sweat glands and stop sweating. ‘When you’re working you can’t take your jacket off, it’s embarrassing for people,’ says Austin. ‘It’s quite disabling, people don’t realise how much they put up with it for many many years.’

A day or so after the injections, you won’t sweat for up to 9 months.

Free consultations with Austin Brewer

The consultation process involves a 15 to 20-minute conversation about what the client would like and Austin will recommend treatments. You can book a free consultation with Austin Brewer today to discuss wrinkle treatments, dermal filler and hyperhidrosis treatments in Bournemouth.

How Long Do Lip Fillers Last?

Botox In Dorset

How long do lip fillers last?

Many people visit the Austin Brewer Clinic for lip fillers in Bournemouth and ask how long fillers last?.  Lip fillers are like any non-invasive cosmetic surgery; and lip and aesthetic treatment results and longevity varies.   The effective period differs from person to person.

The treatment…

Once the injections are complete, you will see the effects of your treatment immediately. You may notice some mild and temporary swelling but this minor side effect will normally disappear within approximately 24 hours.

After the swelling has gone down, your dermal fillers should last between six and eighteen months. The time that dermal fillers are effective are dependent on the individual and also on the volume and areas being treated. Dermal fillers can be injected into all areas of the face, neckline, neck and hands.

At Austin Brewer we use hyaluronic acid in our lip fillers, which is considered a better, safer and longer-lasting alternative to collagen and fat injections. Hyaluronic acid occurs naturally in the body and is responsible for skin elasticity and tone. As we age hyaluronic acid levels decrease contributing to the effect of fine lines and wrinkles.

Another great thing about lip fillers is that they don’t need any maintenance. There is no need to use any cosmetics to increase the length, potency or effect, they will always remain looking perfect until your body naturally begins to break them down.

Austin Brewer is the leading facial aesthetics practitioner in Bournemouth, Dorset.   He has extensive experience in the field of non-invasive cosmetics.  As a registered nurse with the NMC and the only cosmetics practitioner registered with the Independent Healthcare Advisory Service.  You can be assured that you are in safe hands when you choose Austin.

How to Find Your Next Facial Aesthetic Practitioner

It can be difficult to find a facial aesthetic practitioner that you trust. It is important to always check practitioners accreditations before having cosmetic treatments, and taking the time to think about what you would like to achieve. Use our guide on how to find your next facial aesthetic practitioner with ease:

Medical Grade Skin Peel Treatments1. How much is your face worth to you?

Finding a great deal on a pair of shoes is one thing – hey if they fall apart after a season no problem, but the same isn’t true with your face, is it?

2.  Do you just want the cheapest?

Any cosmetic treatment “deals” are actually illegal so all these “special offers” or “bring a friend” deals are not even legitimate ways of offering cosmetic treatments such as Botox® – Ask yourself why do they need to offer such things to try and persuade people to come to them?

3.  Does experience matter to you?

Fancy being someone’s guinea pig? There’s nothing better than another unsuspecting victim…sorry um patient – has anyone ever actually had to draw on your face where they’re going to inject Botox® or dermal fillers? Warning bells should be going off about now.

4.  How accessible and available is your practitioner?

How about one that’s available 7 days a week 9am to 9pm and always on the other end of the phone? Would you like a discreet and private service? Decide what suits you.

5.  Do you want an honest professional?

An aesthetic practitioner who would tell you when you don’t need any cosmetic treatment, and who truly has your welfare and best interests at heart, not profit?

6.  Would you like your cosmetic treatment to be personally modelled to you, or just look like everyone else?

It’s not a case of one way fits all, unfortunately this is the only way many aesthetic practitioners know how to work.

7.  Do you want your aesthetic practitioner to specialise in this area or don’t you mind a dentist having a go?

Be “excellent” at one thing not “ok” at many – you wouldn’t ask your hairdresser to give your car an MOT or a heart surgeon to give you an eye test – would you? You want to be assured that this is what they do all day every day – this is what makes a true specialist aesthetic practitioner, not just as a side-line as an additional money spinner.

8.  Would specialised experience since 2004 and trained to a master class standard help you choose where to go?

If you’re thinking, yes! Then Austin Brewer has exactly that. We were the first in Dorset to be accredited with the Treatments You Can Trust practice mark which is still the only regulatory board backed by the government.

9.  Does the word “Harley Street” mean anything to you? Or are you just being fooled by the buzzword on some aesthetic practitioners’ websites?

What would you say if you knew that several aesthetic practitioners were providing cosmetic treatments and “1-day training courses” in Harley Street for new practitioners and these instructors have now been struck off for malpractice? Where does that leave those who were trained by them? Are they qualified to practice having been taught by someone who has been banned from practising themselves?

10.  Would you like your aesthetic practitioner to be artistic and understand the boundaries of aesthetics?

Alicia Duval, Jackie Stallone ……I rest my case.

Choose Austin Brewer as your facial aesthetic practitioner and benefit from a wide variety of cosmetic treatments on offer. Choose between Botox®, lip fillers and dermal fillers in Bournemouth and many more. Book a free consultation today.

What Are Lip Fillers?

Lip Fillers SouthamptonLip fillers (also known as dermal fillers, lip enhancements or lip plumping) are a cosmetic treatment which gives fuller, plumper lips.  Filler treatments can also correct and fix lip asymmetry and a gummy smile.

Originally, dermal fillers were made of collagen. Patients needed an allergy test to determine whether they were allergic to the collagen before every procedure. Advancements in technology discovered more biocompatible substances that don’t require prior testing, such as hyaluronic acid. Hyaluronic acid is a natural substance found in high concentrations in the body and the obvious choice for Austin Brewer’s lip fillers in Bournemouth.

 What is hyaluronic acid?

Hyaluronic acid might be a bit of a mouthful to pronounce, but it naturally occurs in the body and is present in the skin. It preserves moisture levels, boosts skin tone and provides shape, structure and volume to otherwise lacking lips. As we age, the concentration of hyaluronic acid in our skin decreases.  When this substance reduces, the skin dries out and wrinkles start to appear.

We use hyaluronic acid fillers for these range of benefits:

·         Control over lip volume – As hyaluronic acid is injected the degree of lip volume created can be controlled

·         Less bruising – compared to other dermal fillers, bruises and swelling from hyaluronic acid injection is visibly less

·         Long lasting results – while not permanent, hyaluronic acid lip fillers last a long time

·         Relatively allergy free – because hyaluronic acid occurs naturally in the body it is highly unlikely that you would be affected by a reaction.

·         Naturally hydrates skin – as hyaluronic acid is an intense moisturising agent; you’re effectively turning back time!

·         Almost instant results – unlike Botox®, you start to see the results of your dermal filler almost immediately.

·         Versatility – these lip fillers can be used for other areas of the face, including neckline, neck and hands

How Long Do Dermarolling Treatments Last?

We’d all like an effective skincare treatment that shows lasting results and dermarolling could offer just that.

Dermarolling is a non-invasive cosmetic treatment.  Whereby a series of micro-medical needles are rolled gently across the skin. This is done in order to create tiny surface injuries, which will then encourage the skin to heal itself.

In kick-starting the healing process, collagen and elastin production is stimulated. These two naturally occurring substances are the reason behind the skin’s firmness and elasticity.  As we age, the levels of collagen and elastin naturally decrease, which increases the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. By encouraging this small-scale regeneration with skin needling .  Your skin’s complexion can improve and appear smoother and more youthful.

How Long Do Dermarolling Treatments Last?

As a procedure Dermaroller skin needling treatment takes up relatively little time.  It can be undertaken during a lunchtime or an afternoon.  However please note that skin needling is not a try-once procedure with immediate results.  It should also be noted that there will be redness after treatment.  In order to stimulate the continual renewal of the collagen and elastin, regular courses of skin needling should be considered.

You should look to book dermaroller treatments every two months.  As in the long run this will have a greater positive impact on your skin. The answer to how long dermarolling lasts is directly related to the care and attention you give your skin.  Both in terms of treatments and terms of aftercare.  Micro needling as an effective skin treatment can last as long as you want it to last.  And as long as you put the effort in, you will reap the rewards.

Dermaroller for Acne Scars

Acne is a very common skin condition that affects many people at some point in their lives. A course of treatment using a Dermaroller for acne scars can help.  Acne causes spots which can normally be found on the face, back and chest. These spots can range from mild black and whiteheads to more severe, pus-filled pustules and cysts. The deeper the acne is the more likely it is to damage skin and leave scars. Dermarolling can be offered as an acne scarring treatment to alleviate the damaged look of your skin.

What do acne scars look like?

Acne scars can appear in three forms:

  • Ice pick scars – small, deep holes that look like skin has been punctured by a sharp object like a needle.
  • Rolling scars – caused by bands of scar tissue below the surface of the skin. Can give the surface of the skin an uneven appearance.
  • Boxcar scars – shallow, crater-like depressions.

Dermaroller for acne scars

Dermarolling can offer a relief to those who suffer from the deep wounds left behind by acne. Acne scar removal can help people with confidence issues related to this skin condition and give them a new lease of life!

Dermarolling as an acne scarring treatment uses the micro needles present on the Dermaroller® to create tiny injuries just on the surface of the skin. These tiny injuries stimulate the production of collagen, which is a protein responsible for skin’s elasticity and tone. With the extra production of collagen, skin can start to ‘fill’ these scars and correct the pain and anguish caused by the presence of these pockmarks.
