At the Austin Brewer Facial Aesthetics Clinic, we get many clients interested in lip and dermal fillers. We are asked what lip fillers are and how long lip fillers last.  Today, we’re going to talk about the other aspect of lip fillers: do lip fillers hurt?

As a reminder, lip filling or lip augmentation is a relatively short procedure. Typically, an appointment lasts between 30 minutes and an hour.  But don’t worry, not all of that time is spent injecting!.  At Austin Brewer, we provide lip fillers using Hyaluronic Acid.  HA  is a naturally occurring substance in the skin that loses concentration as we age. Injecting Hyaluronic Acid dermal fillers raises these levels for a short period (between 6 and 18 months).  So that you can continue to look your amazing self.

So do lip fillers hurt?

Please bear in mind that when the hyaluronic acid fillers are injected into the area, there may be a slight throbbing or a stinging sensation.   However, this discomfort normally fades a short while after.  We provide an excellent numbing cream, and the filler itself also has a numbing agent.

As with any injection, the area around your lips will encounter some temporary but mild swelling.  But please do not worry – this minor side effect normally disappears within 24 / 48 hours.  So by the next day, you will see the results of your lip filler.  For some, it can take a while longer for everything to settle, so if you are considering treatment for a special occasion, please ensure you leave enough time.

What are the risks of getting lip fillers?

The great thing about the hyaluronic acid fillers that we use is that it’s a naturally occurring substance within the body already.  The risk of an allergic reaction is almost negligible.  The fillers we use are the safest lip fillers available today.  It also requires no maintenance!.  At Austin Brewer, we are always conscious of making our procedures safer, simpler and less painful for our customers.

So, the short answer to the question “Do Lip Fillers Hurt?” The answer: “Not that much”.
