What’s the difference between Profhilo and dermal fillers?

The only real similarity between Profhilo and dermal fillers is that they are both made from hyaluronic acid which is injected into your skin.  Profhilo contains an exceptionally high concentration of pure hyaluronic acid.   This concentration is exceptionally pure because of the patented manufacturing process.  It is unique as the process does not involve the use of chemical cross-linking agents to bind the chains.

Traditional dermal fillers are all made of hyaluronic acid and all have a different viscosity, dependent on the requirements and which areas are being treated.  So a thicker filler would be used for your jawline compared to your lips for instance.  Profhilo is not a dermal filler.  It is a much thinner consistency due to the molecular chains of non-animal hyaluronic acid being formed of both high and low molecular weight.  They are fused together making them thermally stabilised and this creates a patented gel.  When injected spreads to become integrated into the skin.  It is only injected into the upper layer of the skin, as it’s not being used to fill anything, just to rehydrate the skin to enable the scaffolding effect and trigger the bio-remodelling process.  

Is Profhilo better than fillers?

Essentially they are 2 different products for 2 different treatment options.  Profhilo is excellent at rejuvenating the skin texture and hydration.  Profhilo will not add any volume.   Treatment will improve the appearance of ageing and sagging tissue with a tightening lifting effect.  Fillers are used to recreate the volume that is lost due to ageing eg; cheeks, temples & lips. Is Profhilo better than Botox?

There is no downtime after Profhilo treatment, but you may see some small bumps at the injection site.  These can take up to 24 hours to settle.

Does Profhilo treatment hurt?

The injections are small but may sting a little.  Anaesthetic is not necessary as treatment is quick and there will possibly be only, if any, mild discomfort.   There may be some residual tenderness, redness or needle marks at the site of injection.  These will disappear in the next few days after treatment.  If you can feel any product where it has been injected please leave it alone to settle, as it will naturally disperse into your skin, do not massage.  You can resume your normal day-to-day activities, with some exceptions (see below).

Profhilo treatment is not suitable for anyone who is pregnant or breastfeeding.  Some medications and supplements can cause an increased risk of bruising which should be avoided in the days before and after your Profhilo treatment.  

If you are planning to have treatment for a special occasion, we suggest having the procedure in advance as much as possible before the event.  This is for 2 reasons, firstly you will want the full effects to be showing.  This treatment takes time, due to the treatments needing to be 4 weeks apart.   Secondly, as with any injectable treatment, there is always a risk of bruising.  So leaving enough time before the event will ensure any bruising that may occur has the chance to go.  

How long will my Profhilo treatment results last?

Everyone is unique, but as a general guide, your Profhilo treatment results will last approximately 6 months.

Profhilo is a great stand-alone treatment, but Profhilo works primarily on the skin quality, not muscle movement or re-creating any lost volume.  For significant lift and enhancement to the face, Profhilo is brilliant when used in conjunction with other treatments too.

Many people ask us, “Does Dermarolling / micro needling really work?”. Our answer is always the same. Yes! But only if done correctly, safely and professionally and importantly, if the patient follows the correct aftercare.

Dermaroller® micro skin needling is a non-invasive treatment where tiny needles are rolled across the skin, encouraging the skin to renew itself in a controlled manner. After the initial rest time, the difference between the dermarolling before and after effects is profound. The skin will look more youthful, and scarring from acne and stretch marks will be visibly reduced.

Why is the Dermarolling |skin needling aftercare important?

The aftercare of skin needling & dermarolling is particularly important. This is because the process makes the skin delicate during the healing process. Sweating opens the pores of your skin, and bacteria might be able to enter the reopened skin punctures, which could lead to a reaction or infection. Please also avoid saunas, hot tubs, and any conditions that gets you overheating.

Avoid the sun and sunscreen

We also recommend you avoid the sun after a dermaroller treatment. UV light can harm the skin during the healing process.
The skin will be highly sensitive after the micro needling. Avoid moisturisers and sunscreen for 24 -48 hours, as the oils may enter the skin channels.

Avoid “Active Ingredient” skin products

Products with “active ingredients” usually include substances like Alpha Hydroxyl Acids, Retinol and other similar agents. These ingredients can potentially irritate the skin after microneedling and delay the healing process.

Avoid makeup

You do not want your makeup penetrating the pores and causing further irritation. Makeup brush bristles can penetrate the pores that have been opened by the microneedling process. Dirty makeup brushes may also cause negative side effects.

Ensure your hands are always clean

Pay extra care that your hands are always clean after dermaroller treatment, and try to avoid touching your face. You do not want dirt and bacteria getting in contact with the skin while it is healing.
