Can dermal fillers move? Austin Brewer answers

Dermal fillers are one of our most popular cosmetic treatments. They give your complexion a bright, youthful tone and can help reduce the appearance of wrinkles. But one question we are often asked is “Can dermal fillers move?”. Here we discuss why you can rest assured your facial fillers will stay put!

Common fillers myths

The idea that dermal fillers would move seems logical. In fact, many patients feel nervous when washing or touching their face, in fear that their facial fillers may move. But don’t worry!

The filler and lip fillers we use in our aesthetic practitioner clinic are made from hyaluronic acid, which is naturally present in the human body.  Interestingly, these fillers contain a clever molecule that coils when it is inserted into the skin.  This tissue integration causes the molecules to weave itself with the natural collagen and elastin in the skin, keeping the filler firmly in place. Dermal fillers once settled after treatment will remain in the area they have been injected and usually last between six and eighteen months.

Are dermal fillers removable?

If your facial fillers are firmly fixed into your skin, what happens if you don’t like the results? One of the good aspects of this cosmetic treatment is that it can be removed.  Although to remove dermal fillers is not a procedure that is without it’s own risks and complications as hyaluronidase can have serious side effects.  It should not be used as a option lightly.  Hyaluronic acid is an incredible molecule, that does not bind itself to any other molecules, so it can be dissolved. Unlike surgical treatments, dermal fillers are low risk, with no permanent changes.

We have never had to remove facial fillers at our clinic. Our clients have always been happy with their results!
